If You Try Sometimes, You Might Find [Dec. 31st, 2009|04:27 pm]

It's been an eventful year, as the other post dated today (which I made a year ago) just barely begins to hint at. There has been plenty of death and pain and stress in my life and in the world at large, but I've accomplished things this year too. Mainly professional rather than personal; on a personal level I think I'm in mostly (though not quite) the same place I was a year ago. There's been a little personal growth and change, but not much. Most of that has involved trying to deal with stressful external events, and I'd really like a different kind of growth this year, thank you.

On a professional level, I graduated from law school, passed the bar, and became a real attorney, the culmination of a dream that started seven years ago. So that's nothing to sneeze at. But I think 2010 needs to be a personal growth year. The professional front is taken care of for the next while, so I have to work on the other stuff that goes into living life. Maybe I can even be happy for some of 2010.

I don't think there's any point reflecting on the past decade. When it started, I was an 18-year-old child with one semester of college under my belt. In the '00s, I grew up. I'm not done yet, either. Any attempt to summarize growing to adulthood in bullet points is futile; likewise doing the same with world affairs. So, no memes.

I think we're all hoping this next year will be better than this past year. But...

I went to Paris for the first time this year.

Any year where you get to see Paris can't have been all bad.

Warning: This may not be safe for those in healthy parent-child relationships.

1. parents need a burn box. No child, regardless of age, needs to find that which their parent finds exciting.

2. Valium is not just for back spasms anymore. Well, it would be if I actually had some.

3. What was valuable as a child becomes a source of conflict and or confusion as an adult. The Hoadley plates will likely be coming home with me...unless my brother wants them.

4. When cleaning out a parents house it is best to do so either alone or with reinforcements...do not play solely with the surviving parent, you will not be happy. Thank goodness for my Aunt!

5. When considering dumping the surviving parent down the trash chute watch the similar episode of Castle. This will point out many potential issues.

6. Friends who let you stay with them are the best. Friends who ask their car dealer manager husbands for fancy loaner cars for you are Saints. Spending $500 on a rental car was going to be tough.

I have now published a fix for md5deep, version 3.5.1. This is a critical update from version 3.5. All users are strongly encouraged to update immediately. This version of the package also adds a new feature from version 3.4, the ability to hash a set of files specified in an input file (-f mode).

Do not use md5deep version 3.5 [Dec. 29th, 2009|10:16 am]

There is a major bug in md5deep version 3.5. The programs do not process any file of zero bytes. The bug has been documented as bug 2922415 and you can monitor my progress in fixing it there. I'll also post a new version of the programs when the problem is solved.

In the meantime, please revert to md5deep version 3.4 and accept my humble apologies.
