New Year. New Hobby
So late 2008 in the middle of the snowpocalypse in Oregon I decided to reward myself with gear for a new hobby. On one hand there is the dog related events I attend with my better half. On the other hand there is women's flat track roller derby. Something to augment each was what I had in mind when I bought the Canon Rebel XSi camera.

This last weekend, it had it's first field trial at the 3rd largest dog show in the US, the Rose City Classic.

For the truly bored or overly voyeuristic pictures can be found at:

Yes. 2 URLs. slight different pictures. I am trying each of these share your pictures sites out to see how they compare.
PicasaWeb has some neat free photo-modifying tools and really
at this point to crop em, sharpen them,or do something cool like
black and white really meets my needs.

Nice photos! Indoor dog shows are tough because the backgrounds are so distracting and busy, and the lighting is challenging. Niether of those seem to have been problems for you. :)

Check out Adobe Lightroom. Your other half probably qualifies for an academic discount. Picasa is nice, and of course free, but Lightroom gives you a lot more in the way of management tools, and there are add-ins available for exporting directly to flickr and Google.

Good shots. Also, S and I are happy to report that you do indeed completely disappear when you've got a camera in front of you. We had a hard time finding you in the crowd.

The flickr photos look great. The picasa link didn't load, I will try again later. Nice pictures though. That looks like fun.

now you get to go through the constant anguish of "if only my lens was faster" and "if only there was more light".

If you ever want to do some photography on a tripod, get a nice shutter release remote. Mine's RF based, not infrared based. It's also a cheap as hell chinese manufactured one. Here's the manufacturer. $20 normally, don't spend any more than you have to.
